SeaWorld just got busted by a US government agency for violating the Animal Abuse Act — and we may have a rare chance to end its animal cruelty for good.
SeaWorld imprisons orca whales in tiny, cage-like tanks — and the USDA citation reveals conditions at the park are…
Guys. God/Goddess/Deity/Fate/Whatever love you, THIS IS NOT WELL THOUGHT THROUGH. And I’ve been seeing it all over here and Facebook.
These animals CANNOT BE RELEASED INTO THE WILD. They are no longer wild animals. Some never were. They are not equipped to handle life in the wild any more than any other zoo animal. What do you honestly think is going to happen if they’re illegal to keep in CA? We’ve covered that they can’t be Free Willy’d.
So that leaves, what, two options? Unless there’s an orca sanctuary kickin’ around somewhere, which there isn’t to all my knowledge.
Transfer them to another Sea World. Shall we talk about the stress this would put on the whales?
Humanely euthanize them. Yeah, I don’t like that option either.
It’s one thing to pass a law that makes it illegal to acquire new whales when these inevitably pass on. It is a WHOLE ‘NOTHER can of worms to make it immediately illegal to keep them, such that everyone with them must get rid of them.
PLEASE think these things through. Please. And then reblog them if you still want to, by all means. But please consider first what is going to happen to these animals.
